Exploring the Hot Springs

More than 400 years ago, during the Ming dynasty, a court official named Ding Yizhong (丁一中) travelled through Fujian and heard that the physician Wu Zhenren, later honoured as Baosheng Dadi (保生大帝) had used the waters at Tang'an to treat an outbreak of illness in Quanzhou. He went to see the springs for himself. Moved by what he found, he wrote the Wenquan Ming (温泉铭) , an inscription describing this heavenly gift as one set neither in the city nor in the mountains, but where ordinary people could reach it. The stone plaque bearing it was rediscovered in the 1980s, on the site where Riyuegu Hotsprings now stands
